Welcome to Through the Peacock’s Eyes, Insights for Spiritual Living! I’ve developed this blog/website as a means to help heal, teach, and guide others on their spiritual journeys and in this life. It is my hope that through my writings, readings, and teachings that I will be able to provide insight, inspiration, and guidance to others as they grow and travel along both their individual and spiritual paths. Though I may reference and discuss different philosophies, religions, spiritual practices, and healing modalities, I believe that under the surface they all provide paths for us to free ourselves from our sufferings and to live a good and joyful life.
Meaning and Symbolism of the Peacock
I chose the title, Through the Peacock’s Eyes, for a couple of reasons: the symbolism of the peacock, and its connection to the Hindu goddess Saraswati. The symbolism of the peacock is similar across many cultures, from Christianity where it represents patience, love, eternal life, and immortality, to Buddhism where it represents wisdom, kindness, and compassion. The Bodhisattvas, such as Quan Yin and Avalokiteshvara, are often associated with the peacock because as the peacock can eat poison and not be affected by it, the Bodhisattvas can take in the poisonous emotions of others and not be affected by them.
The peacock’s habit of replacing its feathers yearly and its connection to the phoenix also make it a symbol of renewal, rebirth, and reincarnation. In ancient Greek mythology, when the “all-seeing” 100-eyed giant Argus died, the goddess Hera preserved his eyes on the peacock to honor him. Thus the peacock’s eyes themselves represent seeing, insight, and wisdom. The eyes on the peacock’s feathers are also thought to represent the stars in the heavens.
The Goddess Saraswati
In Hindu mythology, the vehicle for the goddess Saraswati is often the peacock. Saraswati is the goddess of wisdom, knowledge and learning, creativity, music, language, and writing. As her vehicle, the peacock helps her navigate through the world with compassion, wisdom, and understanding.

I’d swear I responded to this piece yesterday, but as I read people’s responses I don’t see mine. I hate it when that happens.
Love this piece. I’m sure you saw the research recently released about how it has been confirmed cats see many more wavelengths than us. So they really are looking at things in our homes we don’t see. I am certain they are looking at all the celestial visitors who so often visit my home. Recently, though, I’ve come to the conclusion they may be looking at unwanted visitors. Because my own guides are likely familiar to them. They may be alert to energy that is floating in that I need to be more attentive to removing on a regular basis. That’s why they suddenly look so alert at what appears to be nothing.
Hmmm…I did get this yesterday and I responded. This is on the home page and the other comment is on the Cat post. Somehow you switched over?

“Whatever our backgrounds, religious or not, we are all on the same journey.”
What do you mean by that?
The journey of life and understanding Love and Truth.
Then how can you say we are all on the same journey? Some few may be devotees of Love and Truth, but many are not.
Many are slaves to hatred, avarice, power, carnality &c. Are they on the same journey? You may say, I suppose, that we are all on the same ‘journey’ to the grave – but that is just to say that we are all mortal.
“We are all on the same journey” just sounds to me like a feel-good platitude. How does it relate to reality?
Yes, many are not conscious devotees of Love and Truth. Much of the journey of life is suffering – suffering through hatred, avarice, power, fear, and greed (from others and within ourselves); and through that journey, through facing our suffering, our minds, our demons, or whatever term one choses to use for it, the soul may find God, Truth, and Love.
“We are all on the same journey” is not meant to be a trite statement made through over-optimism or seen through rose-colored glasses. We are a community of beings experiencing life with all its suffering. That is reality, and it is through acknowledging and understanding suffering that we may find Love. Yes, many are not conscious of this at all. That is their suffering and their journey.
The “About” page is just a summary of what this blog is about, not an in depth philosophical thesis. The rest of the blog is an exploration and study of various paths that may help others. What resonates with one, may not resonate with another. Hence, the various religious, philosophical, spiritual, and even purely scientific paths.

I would say that some people are righteous, and some people are evil, and the righteous know what Love is and will have Heaven, and the unrighteous do not, and will have Hell. Are you saying that both the wicked and righteous alike by their (opposite) separate paths both learn of Love? What do you mean by that? I suppose you could say that even Hell is one perspective (the perspective of the damned) on the Love of God, but prima facie your statements still seem meaningless to me.

Again, this idea that one path is as good as another. How can one approach, which is contradictory to another approach, be as good as that approach? If you want to climb a mountain, you must go up, and not down or sidewise. Furthermore, if you are describing a pilgrimage to truth, how can truth contradict itself? Christianity and Buddhism, for instance, are not complementary alternatives; they are opposites. One asserts the personality and absolute primacy of God, the other asserts the primacy of nothingness, and doesn’t care much about God.
More than this, if, as you claim, we’re all ‘in this [journey] together’ how can it be the case that what’s meat for one man’s soul is poison for another’s, any more than what is meat for one man’s body can be poison for another’s? All men share a common nature, and spiritual truth must fit that nature as a key fits a lock.
If your view is purely from the traditional Catholic perspective, then acknowledging that there are many paths for one to find Truth, Love, or God may seem meaningless. That is your choice and your path. Each person, each individual ego, will choose which direction their life will take, whether that be Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, Hindu, et cetera. In this material realm of duality, yes, opposite approaches can lead to the same place. They are two halves of the same coin.
Please note: There are different sects or schools of Buddhism, just as some Catholics believe Jesus was a man delivering God’s message and not God incarnate. Some Buddhist lineages, especially those influenced by the Bon tradition, worship deities, and do care about God. The paths are different and the individuals of one religion do not all think the exact same things. Humans are not bees with one collective mind.
Yes, spiritual truth is the key to heaven, enlightenment, moksha, et cetera. This is what the individual egos must discover and understand. Again, what path each person chooses is up to him/her.

I don’t believe human beings have a collective mind, but I do believe there is something concrete which we all share which makes us all human. I also believe that you won’t get to the top of a mountain by going down it.
There are no Catholics who formally believe that Christ was not the Son of God; that is a contradiction in terms. To be Catholic is to obey Christ, and in so doing to obey the Church, and She unequivocally affirms the divinity of Jesus Christ.
Ok. I was raised Catholic and have known those devoted to being Catholic who have unorthodox views, but that it their path. 😉 Thank you again for this discussion.
Catholic means “according to the whole”. You cannot hold an unorthodox view – that is, you cannot pick and choose (heresy is literally a ‘choosing’) – and claim the name of Catholic, since you have taken for yourself only PART of the (acknowledged) whole.
Some people unwittingly espouse unorthodox opinions, but believe aright in their heart; they are Catholics, and their heresy is only ‘material’. Some people wilfully and knowingly espouse unorthodox opinions, and they are formal heretics: the same are damned, unless they repent.
